Helping Hand Coalition Report

Rachel Salomon, Age: 82,City: Petach Tikva

Rachel was born in Hungary and was 17 when the war broke out. She was sent to Auschwitz and then to an explosives plant. While working at the plant, certain substances got into her left eye causing her to be blind in this eye ever since.

Rachel rents an apartment in Petach Tikva. Her two sons live in London and tell her to continue renting despite her financial problems. They have said that they will return from London soon and help her financially, but they have been saying this for a long time now and have done nothing about it. Rachel’s income consists of Bituach Leumi and special funds from the Nation’s Reserves. After paying her bills she has 1,200 shekels left over for food, medicine etc.  each month.

Urgent Need: With the financial aid she receives, Rachel is able to pay her bills but is left with little money for her daily needs. These needs include food and medicine. She has recently had an eye operation and now needs a new pair of glasses.
