Helping Hand Coalition Report

Riva,  Age: 71, City: Haifa

Riva has been living in Israel for the past four years. Partially blind for most of her life but has completely lost her sight seven years ago. A life in a rented apartment with her son, but because of her blindness is incapable of doing simple things such as eating, getting dressed, and going to the bathroom without assistance. A nurse can only lend a hand nine hours a week. Her son, who is in his forties, tries to take care for his mother as much as he can but since he is going blind he is unable to get a job to support them.

Riva was born in the Ukraine. Her father was an officer in the Soviet army and because of his position was able to evacuate his family before the Nazis invaded. In fact Riva fled from Kiev the day that the Nazis arrived. After the war, she moved back to the Ukraine with her family.

Urgent Needs: Riva is in desperate need for a nurse that can assist her for a longer amount of time everyday, who can help her with her day-to-day needs. Her and her son are also in need of assistance of money for rent, as her son is unemployed because of his poor eyesight.
